SEEGSEEG (Stereoelectroencephalography) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure for diagnosis in drug-resistant focal epilepsy patients.
The objective is to identify the epileptic focus. To do so, electrodes are implanted in predefined parts of the brain to record electrical activity and epileptic seizures. Patients usually stay in hospital for around a week (maximum 30 days) under surveillance with EEG monitoring and video recording. Thermocoagulation may be performed in some cases. The data collected is analysed to refine the patient's diagnosis and plan the next treatment options. |
